The launch is a big deal for China, where the iPhone 6 has been popular for two years now.

But Chinese smartphone sales have been down in the last 12 months, with sales down 16.2% in the first three months of 2018 compared to the same period last year.

In China, Apple sells more phones than any other smartphone maker, with a total of 3.4 billion handsets sold last year, according to IDC, with Samsung leading the way with 5.2 billion smartphones sold.

The company also has a strong presence in India, with Apple selling more than 5 billion devices there last year and more than 9 million in China, according the company’s Chinese unit.

In 2017, Apple sold 1.6 billion iPhones in China and 735 million in India.
